Students revealed last week that just 10.8% of top-earners at the University of Cambridge are women. Of the 101 individuals paid £140,000 or over in 2015, a staggering 90 were men.

Uncovering such a story – which appeared in Cambridge’s only independent student paper Varsitywould have been near impossible without the Freedom of Information Act. This vital piece of legislation, introduced in 2000, grants every single individual a “right of access” to publicly held information, and enables us to hold our universities and public institutions to account.
